Steve Martorano, Creator & Host

What’s a drawer full of unsold screenplays get you? Well, if you’re Steve Martorano they can result in a long and colorful career in broadcasting, both radio and television. In a span of over four decades Steve has managed to meet and interview a host of personalities including the likes of Jane Fonda and Frank Zappa well as mobsters and moguls.

Beginning his broadcast journey in his hometown of Philadelphia, Steve was among a handful of “long haired hippy” DJ’s birthing new sort of underground radio, first at WDAS-FM and later at the legendary progressive rock station WMMR. Steve made his radio bones both playing the records of and interviewing everyone from blues giant BB King to the incomparable Stevie Wonder, with an occasional David Bowie thrown in for good measure.

Turning his sights to the great wasteland of television, Steve made it to New York City in the early 70’s.As a young cub reporter/associate producer at public TV’s flagship station WNET, he had a front row seat at many of that city’s and the nation’s, biggest news stories from the anti-war movement , the infamous Little Italy shooting of “Crazy” Joey Gallo to the early days of the Watergate affair, he saw it all. Up close and personal.

In addition Steve has toiled in the fields of talk radio. In a period of over 20 years doing straight as well as sports talk at stations in Boston, WBZ and Philadelphia, WIP he sharpened in interviewing skills with guests ranging from senators to short stops.

The last decade has seen Steve turn his attentions to the subject of substance abuse and treatment with his program “Recovery Radio” on Philadelphia’s Big Talker, 1210 WPHT. Now expanding the subject to include behavioral health in general Steve has launched his latest project the podcast “Behavioral Corner.”

So as those unsold screenplays sit gathering dust, Steve Martorano keeps moving forward. He has always taken to heart the words of the great Hall of fame pitcher Satchel Paige; “Never look back,” Satch said, "someone might be gain’ on ya."
