Has there ever been a more appropriate moment to pause and consider our mental health? It is therefore fortunate that October is set aside as “National Mental Health Month.”
And not a moment too soon. Just consider the year 2020 in its still unraveling wretchedness. 2020 now takes its place in the rogues gallery of bad numbers. 13, 666, and 9/11 have nothing on 2020. Institutions and individuals have been placed under what often seems like relentless stresses, be they fire, flood, protest or politics, and pandemic.
As a famed philosopher once said - and I’m paraphrasing here - “I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in.” And that’s what Mental Heath Month ought to remind us to do. Chances are the crazy stuff will be with us as a condition of being human. Crazy happens. For our own sake, we need to always balance life’s trials along side our sane reactions and behaviors. Equipoise is our goal. Bliss may remain just beyond our grasp, but what’s a “reach“ for. In order words, “be cool.”
October is National Mental Health Month. Ask yourself what condition your condition is in and then adjust accordingly.
